Spirometry: improving patient outcomes and reducing overall costs for COPD through early diagnosis and annual assessment

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

COPD is a costly disease that is responsible for hospitalizations, emergency room visits and general physician outpatient treatments. Spirometry is the gold standard for diagnosing COPD; however, only one in three patients receives a spirometrybased screening. Once COPD is diagnosed, it is important that patients receive annual spirometry to assess the stage of their disease.
