Abstract

Oxybutynin is the most well-studied anticholinergic agent for detrusor overactivity, with research dating back to the 1960s when it was originally evaluated. Oxybutynin is extremely safe and effective in almost every population including children, the elderly, and those who have neurogenic bladder. With more preparations available and more dosing flexibility than any other anticholinergic medication on the market, oxybutynin remains the "gold standard" for first-line therapy for patients who have detrusor overactivity.
